Louis Vuitton, City Guide Los Angeles 2010

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Louis Vuitton just printed its new Los Angeles City Guide 2010.  This new high end guide is printed and distributed to its luxury clients, stores and retailers all over the world.  It covers everything from what Hotels to stay in while in Los Angeles, where to eat, what to see, where to be seen, and even where to rent a luxury or exotic car while in LA.

Under the “Hotels” and “Car Rental, Roads and Rules” on page 38 the following is mentioned about Olympic Rent-A-Car of Beverly Hills, CA.  “The Los Angeles airport (LAX) has all the major car rental companies.  …..  If only a Bentley, Rolls Royce, or Mercedes luxury sedan, will do, then Olympic Rent-A-Car is the place for you.”

The article in the guide also says “A car is essential to get anywhere in Los Angeles.  It sprawls from north o south over 100 miles and is split by the backbone of the Santa Monica Mountains, Ocean on one side, Valley the other.  Malibu, for example, home to movie stars, is actually a Highway, one of the world’s most romantic roads.  A trip to Universal Studios means a lengthy journey across the city via 405 and 101 to Burbank.”  At the bottom of the page it lists our company name, phone number and our website address.

This is one of Olympic Rent-A-Car’s most recent right ups and positive reviews for 2009-2010.  We do consider ourselves privileged and lucky to be mentioned with such a reputable company and guide like Louis Vuitton.  We just understand that our hard commitment to excellence and the best customer service will always keep us the buzz and talk of the town.S000R0713800N0

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

As seen on “Worlds Most Expensive Rides” on the Discovery Theater Channel HD our luxury and exotic rental vehicles where showcased on TV.  Our Mercedes Benz SLR Mclarren was seen on the show as one of the most expensive rides in the world.Discovery_HD_Theater-logo-3BC924C166-seeklogo.com

We taped the show in early months of 2009 and the it finally aired on television during the month of March 2010.  That was our Silver SLR coupe driving up and down the Sunset Blvd. taking the curves and pushing a whopping speed of 105 mph.  Our General Manager was driving the vehicle with a camera mounted to the driver side door and a camera man in the passenger seat while interviewing him.

“It was a fun experience and I enjoyed tapping the show.  They later added a SLR convertible to the show.  We did receive a lot of positive comments from our clients and vendors who did see the show.  They called and said that they saw our company information listed during the credits.”

The new discovery theater HD channel has been know to show lots of automobile series that just specialize in luxury, exotic and classic car sales, rentals, ownerships and more.  They have shows from the classic car auctions, some of  the most expensive car auctions and more.

Worlds Most Expensive Rides have shown some really neat cars like a Ferrari F430 stretch limousine, an armored looking Hummer, some of the worlds most expensive production vehicles such as the Bentley, Rolls Royce, Spyker and other luxury and exotic brands.

2011 BMW M3 Review

E93M3-9

December in Los Angeles, 2011 BMW M3 Review

“20+ inches of snow to snowblow today… This should be fun.” Is what the top status update read on my facebook as I logged on last Sunday morning.  It was my friend Alex from Minnesota who I had become friends with last year at the Monterey Historics in Northern California.  He had woken up to the aftermath of a snowstorm that dumped over 15 inches on the twin cities in one night.  I shrugged my shoulders, grabbed a cup of tea from the kitchen and headed to the garage.  Waiting for me was a 2010 BMW M3 convertible provided by Olympic Rent-A-Car of Beverly Hills.  I cracked the garage door and was greeted by a blast of 80-degree weather, and the sun beaming down on the orange fall foliage covering my driveway.  To quote Randy Newman, “I Love L.A.”

I went back into the house, got dressed, grabbed the key and headed out.  This particular car is finished in BMW’s handsome Carbon Black with Black Nappa leather interior, and is equipped with the optional M-DCT dual clutch gearbox.  Additionally, the Comfort Access option allows you to enter and start the vehicle without using the fob.  Simply swipe your finger on the ribbed part of the door handle to lock and unlock.  Once inside, a large round button is used to start and stop the engine.

E93M3-4The first thing you notice when firing the engine up from cold is how smooth it is.  Even going through the warm-up sequence it purrs like a sewing machine with no weird noises from the valve-train.  Once warm, you can let it rip.  Like most recent engines from the M division, this one loves to rev.  Push the M-mode button on the steering wheel and the exhaust note changes, the throttle becomes more sensitive and the VANOS system shuffles the cams lower in the rev range to bring the motor into the powerband sooner and harder.  Nothing much happens below 6,000 RPM, but once you get beyond that point, the back squats and intake roar is taken over by a screaming exhaust.  Before you know it, the lights are flashing above the tach and it’s time to pull the right paddle and grab the next gear of the M-DCT gearbox.

The transmission has an automatic and a manual mode, and no less than 6 different levels of shift firmness.  The firmest shifting mode is only available with the Dynamic Stability Control disengaged.  I found the car drives best in manual mode with the firmness set one less than maximum.  Gone are the days of the jerky and confused SMG transmission, this new dual-clutch unit does everything instantly without complaining.  Want to go from 5th to 2nd?  No problem, just pull the left paddle three times and as the car begins to come down from speed, the transmission will summon a downshift when appropriate to keep from hurting the motor and rev match seamlessly.  Want to forget about shifting altogether, tap the gear knob to the right and the car will do everything for you just like a traditional automatic.  Perhaps the only complaint is that it isn’t nearly as engaging as a standard transmission, but the driving experience in a convertible isn’t nearly as visceral as a coupe, so the M-DCT is actually a better match for this car.

E93M3-3The canyon roads that lead from Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley to the beach are the perfect companion to a fast convertible on a warm day.  The engine howls as you wind your way through the gears and between the mountains.  The serene backdrop of endless smooth roads allows the chassis to work while you enjoy your surroundings and make your way toward the water.  As I turned north onto Pacific Coast Highway, another M3 convertible passed me and gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up.  This type of camaraderie isn’t typical of Los Angeles where we have a high volume of sports cars, but M owners tend to be an intimate bunch and I returned the sentiment with a reassuring nod and smile.

After a quick stop for some food and photos, it was time to head back.  Feeling lazy after the spirited drive and fried seafood, I put the transmission into automatic mode and cruised south to Santa Monica for a spin around the 3rd street promenade area.  Santa Monica was bustling with people who were all smiles on a warm day in December, and I got quite a few enthusiastic waves from folks crossing the street as I was making my way through the traffic.

Leaving Santa Monica, the weather began to cool off as the sun set behind me, and after a few quick blasts up to redline I had made my way back to the Olympic Rent-A-Car offices in Beverly Hills.  I dropped the car off, turned over the keys, climbed into my car and drove home thinking back on the experience.  A beautiful day with a beautiful car, it couldn’t have gone better in December.

lamborghini rental

The Lamborghini Gallardo Spider is one of the most desired exotic vehicles in the world.  This amazing exotic high performance Lamborghini is available for rental at Olympic Rent-A-Car of Los Angeles.

2006-Lamborghini-Gallardo-Spyder-3

We do have access to both the hardtop coupe and soft top Lamborghini Gallardo.  Both are available for rental with automatic transmission with paddle gear shifting.

The “E-gear” allows the driver to make shifts much faster than a manual transmission would. The driver shifts up and down via paddles behind the steering wheel, but also has an automatic mode.

The Lamborghini Gallardo is a high-performance exotic super car made in Italy and little brother to the Murcielago.

The car is named after a famous breed of fighting bull. The Spanish word gallardo translates into “gallant”.  This amazing race car has a horsepower of 513, top speed of 195mph and does 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds.

In December 2004, two Gallardos were donated to the Italian police in honour of the force’s 152nd anniversary, one came from Automobili Lamborghini SpA while a second was donated by an independent organization.

The Gallardo Police Cars are used by the traffic police (Polizia Stradale) during emergencies and alarm situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, also under the powers of the special safety operative which is already being employed along that tract of highway and, above all, for the transport of body organs destined for transplantation.

The Lamborghini Gallardo surprised us in a number of ways, but mostly in terms of its refinement and quality. The Gallardo is a bit intimidating initially, due to its radical styling, its dimensions, the sound of its highly tuned Italian V10, and advanced features such as its available E-gear electronic gearbox. But the Gallardo quickly became our friend and bonded as a teammate, more so than, say, a Viper or even a Corvette.Granted, it has a couple of quirks related to some of its most exotic performance options, but we were impressed with its drivability in traffic and by the ergonomic excellence of its interior. The more time we spent with the Gallardo, the more we came to love and enjoy it.
